Room 9 Entertainment in Los Angeles has bought film rights to Dalí and I by Stan Lauryssens, the hilarious non-fiction account of the author's years in Spain as Salvador Dalí's only neighbor. John Salvati (New York) wrote the script "as a black comedy", he says. "A cross between Basquiat and GoodFellas. In my interpretation of the book, the principal character---apart from Dalí, of course---is still called Stan." Room 9 Entertainment was formed in December 2002 by entrepreneur David Sacks and his partners from PayPal, Inc., the online money transfer service that David Sacks helped to create and lead as COO to a US$1.5 billion acquisition by eBay Inc. in October 2002. The company has an equity fund to develop, produce, and finance high quality independent films. "I am convinced the title role will attract A-list actors," David Sacks says. "Al Pacino and Benicio del Toro are high on our wish-list but so are Johnny Depp, Gary Oldham and Ian McKellen."

El último en conocerse se basará en Salvador Dalí, pintor catalán cuya vida será llevada a la gran pantalla a través del director de la futurista 'Gattaca' o la más reciente 'El señor de la guerra', Andrew Niccol. Bajo el título de 'Dali & I: The Surreal Story' (Dalí y yo: La historia surreal), se encargará de relatar la relación de Dalí con su discípulo, el belga Stan Lauryssens, basándose en la biografía de este último escrita por Stan Lauryssens.

La compañía responsable de 'Gracias por Fumar', “Room 9 Entertainment”, será quien esté detrás de este proyecto el cual en palabras de su productor, David O. Sacks: “Se centrará en el período que va de los años 60 a los 80, ya que creo que lo interesante de este período de su vida es que pintaba menos y vendía más, tal como el arte moderno se comercializaba más”. Se espera que el rodaje del film -todavía sin reparto- comience a finales de la próxima primavera.

Livre autobiographique

Selon le Hollywood Reporter, le réalisateur Andrew Niccol sera à la barre d'un film sur le peintre surréaliste Salvador Dali: «Dali & I: The Surreal Story». Ce long-métrage sera produit par la compagnie Room 9 Entertainment, qui nous a déjà offert la satire politique «Thank You for Smoking». Room 9 aurait acquis les droits d'un scénario écrit par John Salvati et qui est inspiré du livre autobiographique de Stan Lauryssens, «Dali and I». Niccol est en train de réécrire le scénario et la compagnie de production aimerait tourner le long-métrage ce printemps.

Le film traitera de la vie du peintre espagnol vue à travers les yeux de Lauryssens, un marchand d'art qui a connu Dali (photo). L'action se déroulera des années 70 jusqu'aux années 80, une période lors de laquelle Dali est devenu plus flamboyant mais ne créait plus vraiment d'aussi grandes œuvres qu'auparavant. On mettra aussi l'accent sur la relation entre l'artiste et Stan Lauryssens. Andrew Nicoll a réalisé les films «Gattaca», «S1m0ne» et «Lord of War». Il a aussi scénarisé «The Truman Show».
